Next Monday, the 12th, we’re going to the Los Indianos party!

El Ingeniero Restaurant will be closed on February 12 (Day of “Los Indianos”).

Through Indiano we know the emigrant who left in search of a better life in the Americas and who returns after having obtained wealth and prosperity. These migratory flows were lived between the sixteenth and early twentieth centuries. Cuba was one of the main destinations. The arrival was by boat.

The festival of Los Indianos appeared for the first time in the 1920s but it was consolidated in 1966 when Los Indianos became part of the Carnival program. It is in the 80’s when talcum powder joined the Indian festival giving rise to the party as it is celebrated today. The assistant should know that the white and cream tones of the beige range are the colors that these garments must have. The festival of Los Indianos has a strong and indissoluble Cuban component, this is so because Cuba was one of the main centers of emigration of many people from La Palma Island. The character of “La Negra Tomasa” was conceived by the neighbor of the capital Víctor Lorenzo Díaz, better known as Sosó.

Every Monday of Carnival thousands of Indians await the arrival of the “Negra Tomasa” in the Plaza de España, which on that day is renamed Plaza de La Habana. After this reception, the Carnival of Los Indianos officially begins.

Now that you know what this popular celebration means in La Isla de la Palma, you will understand that we are going to join the party and get to know this party first hand and enjoy the typical clothes, the music, the talcum powder, the “Negra Tomasa” …

We are waiting for you again in our restaurant starting on Wednesday, February 14 (very special date: Valentine’s Day).
